I'm Gonna Get You Sucka!
Baby Doll: No, I just found it."
- Sucker Punch
So, I’m kind of a dork and I love action movies like Sin
City, Watchmen, etc. This means I also really love Sucker Punch, a movie about a ton of bad-ass women, beating people
up and shooting big guns. Anyway, now that I’ve officially made myself into a
total nerd, it will seem completely normal that in the interim between
rehearsal and Mad Men I decided to
make a dessert based on the main character, Babydoll.
I wanted something that was totally girly, but that had a
ton of different flavors. I also didn’t wanna have to go food shopping, so I
went with what happened to be in my pantry at the time, and through that I came
up with:
Babydoll Blondies with
Cookies and Cream Drizzle
INGREDIENTS:
For the Blondies
- 2
Cookies and Cream chocolate bars
- 1/3
cups sugar
- ½
cup margarine
- 1
¼ cups all-purpose flour
- 1
teaspoon salt
- 2
whole eggs
- 1
teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1
cup dried cherries
For the Drizzle:
- 1
Cookies and Cream chocolate bar
- 1
teaspoon vegetable oil
Directions:
1. Pre-heat the oven the 350 degrees.
2. Place
sugar, 2 chocolate bars and butter into a microwave-safe dish and heat until
the butter and chocolate have melted, and created a goopy sort of paste with
the sugar. You want the whole thing to reach a boil, so microwave it for about
6 minutes, checking on it every so often. Once the dish is out of the
microwave, blend all the ingredients together.
3. Add
the choco-sugar-butter mixture to a mixing bowl with the flour and salt. Blend
together well.
4. Add
the eggs and vanilla extract to the flour mixture. Using a hand mixer, blend
all the ingredients until a firm dough forms.
5. Pour
the dough into a 9x13-inch baking pan, lined with parchment paper. Use your
hands to spread the dough evenly across the pan.
6. Top
the dough with the dried cherries, then use your hands to gently press the
cherries into the dough.
7. Place pan in oven for 30-35 minutes, or until
a toothpick inserted into the center of the pan comes out clean.
8. Allow
the blondies to cool for 10 minutes once out of the oven. Then drizzle
with…drizzle.
For the drizzle:
1. Melt
1 chocolate bar with vegetable oil until the chocolate bar is just melted.
2. Use
fork to drizzle it evenly over the blondies, or just go crazy and all Jackson
Pollack and just toss it wherever.
The blondies smell and taste amazing! And because of the large amount
of butter used for so little dough, it has that glazed look and super-chewy
texture! Also, the sourness of the cherries gives it a little kick (it’s own
“suckerpunch,” if you will) Everyone at rehearsal went absolutely bananas over them! I had none to take home!
They were completely simple to make and even though they’re
small they’re gooey and chewy and rich enough to make sure you don’t eat the
whole pan, which is always the danger when baking!
Enjoy!
Til next time,
D
